Why You Should Keep Reading
Ever question God’s plan because it didn’t align with yours? In Luke 5, Peter did too—until obedience changed everything.
In Part 2 of our “Three C’s” blog series, we dive into what it looks like to truly follow Jesus' command, even when we don’t understand.
Jesus Doesn’t Ask—He Commands
In Luke 5:1-11, Jesus didn’t suggest Peter cast his net again—He commanded it. Peter, the experienced fisherman, pushed back. But in the end, he obeyed. His obedience wasn’t based on logic; it was rooted in trust.
This reminds me of my 3-year-old daughter. Every night I ask her to go to the bathroom before bed. Her response? “Why, Daddy?” She doesn’t see the full picture—I do. I don’t want her to have an accident; I want what’s best for her. God, in His infinite wisdom, sees the same for us.
“Christians often use Jesus as an advisor, not as Lord. But Jesus doesn’t suggest—He commands.”
Blind Faith Looks Like Obedience
Peter didn’t get a full explanation from Jesus. He simply trusted and obeyed. That’s the kind of faith God calls us to—blind obedience that rests on His character, not our circumstances.
Obedience is more than compliance—it’s active faith. God tells us to love our spouse, deny lust, and pray for our enemies. Are we picking and choosing when to obey? Or are we living like Peter, ready to cast the net simply because Jesus says so?
God’s Commands Are Never Without Purpose
Jesus knows what’s on the other side of our obedience. When He commands, He already knows the outcome. Trusting Him doesn’t mean we understand—it means we believe He does.
Think about your athletes. You give them plays to run, strategies to follow—even when they don’t fully get it. You expect trust and execution. The same is true of our faith. Will you respond when God says, “Cast your net into the deep”?
“Jesus commands nothing without knowing the outcome.”
What Is Jesus Commanding You to Do?
We often hesitate when we don’t see the full picture. But Jesus is calling you to bold, unquestioning obedience—to trust His voice above all others.
Trust the Voice That Commands the Deep
Where is Jesus asking you to obey today? Is it in your marriage, your work, or your thought life?
Ask yourself: Am I living a faith that follows commands—or one that just listens?
